The design of logistics inbound and outbound operation aisle width must include the requirements for right-angle turning of vehicles as well as safety clearance. According to the vehicle type, the aisle width for a counterbalanced forklift is calculated as follows:
Logistics aisle width = minimum turning radius of the forklift body (r) + max(cargo rotation radius R, fork rotation radius R1) + 2 × safety clearance.
r: Minimum turning radius of the forklift body
W3xb: Cargo length x width
b2: Fork tine length
L2: Front overhang distance
R: cargo rotation radius
R1: Fork tine rotation radius
Forward-Moving Forklift: Logistics aisle width = minimum turning radius of the forklift body (r) + max(cargo rotation radius R, fork rotation radius R₁) + 2 × safety clearance
r: Minimum turning radius of the forklift body
W3xb: Cargo length and width
b2: Fork tine length
L2: Front overhang distance
R: cargo rotation radius
R1: Fork tine rotation radius
Case 1: RASA calculation for the width of the logistics aisle for counterbalance forklifts:
RASA=minimum turning radius of forklift + pallet cargo rotation radius + safety margin
=2192+1597+100×2=3989mm
Case 2
RASA=The minimum turning radius of forklift + the rotation radius of pallet cargo + safety margin = 3560+3010+100×2=6770mm.
